Courses

National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ)

The NVBLQ ensures that the qualified lifeguard has the knowledge and skills required to operate effectively across a range of beach environments.

Life support 3


Life Support 3 covers the basics of how to perform CPR, including the diagnosis and treatment for Choking, Bleeding and Shock on an Infant, Child & Adult Casualty.

A prerequisite to health and fitness qualifications

Automated external defibrillator (AED)

AED is part of the guidelines for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in the UK and Europe and a vital part of improving the chance of survival in cases of cardiac arrest, in some cases up to 75%.

Life support


This award is designed members of the community and there is no minimum age limit. Life Support can be taken as a separate standalone award or as part of the Survive & Save Award Programme.

Open water lifeguard qualification (OWL)

The OWL qualification has been specifically designed to equip open water lifeguards with the skills required to supervise and provide rescue cover for planned, organised and risk assessed activities in still or non-tidal water.

NVBLQ was developed with support from the National Water Safety Forum Beach Advisory Group and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) and is recognised by the RNLI as one of the main qualifications for beach lifeguarding.

The NVBLQ course is a minimum of 40 hours long followed by a practical assessment on beach theory, life support, first aid, swimming pool practical and open water practical.
